DSA -- Disney Special Activities

Since you've all heard about what I do for work i thought i'd take some time to show you where i work. Yes, it's a picture of my workspace. I know, you're not impressed; and to be honest, i'm not either. I'm stuck in the back corner of our office, which is a converted walk-in closet. There are no windows, which is why my orchid only has one flower blooming and all the other buds refuse to open---it's dying.

I have a few favorite things at my desk to keep me sane. One is the little sailboat i stuck to the top of my monitor. Ah, how nice it would be to be sailing. The wind, the waves, freedom...ok, that's enough daydreaming. Back to work.

Another favorite item is the little bunny patch (i think it has a brand name, but i don't know what it is) with the internal mantra i use when dealing with lazy corporate America. Luckily i don't use it a lot in the office i'm working in now because nobody reports to me (we're at the very bottom of this totem pole). When i'm in Guest Relations i'm tempted to sew it onto my vest because I've discovered asking someone to work while they're getting paid to work is not a very nice thing to do. Go figure. Communism didn't die with the end of the cold war or with the introduction of capitalism in China---it lives on in the American work ethic!

Because we work such crazy hours sometimes i have a secret stash of goodies. Ok, i lied. I tried to keep it a secret, but it's hard to hide so many goodies when you're working in a closet with three other people. I have a nice selection of breakfast item (breakfast bars and oatmeal), healthy snacks (nuts, fruitsnacks, fruitcups, crackers, popcorn, etc...), and junk food (ramen---yes, ramen is junk food, candy, cookies, chips, etc...). My cabinet has been lovingly named "Yang Market".

Unfortunately, my cabinet isn't large enough for the Yang Market inventory, so i had to use two of my drawers (the middle drawer is filled with chocolate, candy, and gum) and some space under my desk. If you think all i do is sit there and work and eat, then you're right. The only thing that saves me is the fact that i'm the only boy in the office; and when there's an errand or a delivery or a transportation request, etc...guess who gets to go.

To be honest i bought all the food to keep the ladies i work with happy. There's Meredith, she sit just to the left of me; and the other two are Kariane, she sits right behind me (and i mean RIGHT behind me---you can see the back of her chair in the first picture); and Patty, she sits at the opposite corner of the closet, right next to the door.

And here's Meredith. When i was taking this picture she was yelling, "this is harassment!" Just wait until she finds out i posted it in my blog. I've known Meredith the entire time i've worked at Disneyland. She left Guest Relations last year to move to DSA and then i left Guest Relations to go to Parking; and now i've followed her. She's my first "work" friend from Disneyland, and we've been working together for so long now i can actually say we're friends, period. I can say that because she keeps me sane and drives me nuts. And i'm pretty sure she says the same thing about me.

And that's DSA---we're the primary point of contact for all Disney executives, non-Disney executives, celebrities, foreign dignitaries, government officials, VIPs, etc...who visit the Disneyland Resort. Needless to say, Monday through Fridays we are swamped and we all go crazy. Maybe one of those days i'll pause for a second and take a picture---it'll look like a bomb hit our closet. But have no fear, Yang Market will supply all four of us with enough food and water to keep us alive until we're dug out by the first responders.

Bring your Yang Market to Utah! We can always use more food. Wami is especially interested in those fruit jello things.
